Application Deadline / Finance Policies
1.Please check the FOCUS web site for the registration deadline. Registering early will prevent class cancellations and ensure that students will have access to the courses needed.
2. Any student registering past the deadline will be charged a $30 late fee.
3. All students registering for FOCUS courses must submit payment or paperwork for payment for all courses. The payment options are available on the web at this location. Students interested in financial aid must register before the term begins for 12 QH’s to be eligible for full time financial aid.
Advisors
Effective, November 6, 2006 the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center (UAAC) will be available to students. All students registering for a FOCUS class must obtain an approval signature from an Academic Advisor. Please contact the Advising center at 1-800-443-5522 ext. 5900.
The web site for additional UAAC information is http://www.nl.edu/advising/
Common questions/issues that the UAAC can assist with: signing registration forms, understanding degree requirements, reviewing time left to complete a degree, forming an academic action plan (designed to plan a course of action to graduate by a determined date) and help with scheduling courses and knowing what courses to take.
Registration
FOCUS students register directly in the registrar’s office in Wheeling in person or via fax at 847-465-4746. Students may also submit registration forms to enrollment representatives and student service representatives to then be faxed to the registrar’s office. Registration forms are not accepted through the FOCUS office. Registration forms are available through the Spring Schedule Page.
Attendance
Because these courses are so intensive, students are expected to be present and prepared for active participation throughout all scheduled instructional activities. Tardiness or early departures will result in a reduction of points awarded for participation and in-class activities.
Students must notify their instructor(s) prior to their absence from a class session. If that is not possible because of an emergency situation, students must contact their instructor(s) as soon as possible to receive instruction on any make-up assignments.
Unless special arrangements are made with the instructor beforehand:
any student who misses three class meetings in one course will be given a “F” for the course;
Any student who misses the first class session of a course will need to contact the instructor of the course to ask for permission to remain in the course or will have to withdraw from the course. Students are no longer automatically dropped from the course. See Class Drops Information
Revised In-Progress "I" Grade Policy
The In-Progress "I" grade policy for undergraduate students was revised in August of 2006. Please refer to Academic Alert #2006-18
for the updated policy. The web link is: http://www.nl.edu/provost/2006AcademicAlerts/
Class Drops/Withdrawals
It is always the student’s responsibility to withdraw from a class within two weeks of the course start date or before half of the scheduled class meetings have occurred. Failure to formally withdraw from a course will result in a “U” grade for the course. If the student does not withdraw in a timely manner, the student will be billed for the entire course.
All withdrawals require written notification to the Registrars Office in Wheeling. The notice should include the student’s name, social security number, and signature, as well as the name and location of the course being dropped. A class drop form/letter may be found on the student FAQ page.
The letter can be mailed or faxed to:
