Lisle Campus

"Thanks-for-Giving" Food Drive and Pot-Luck Luncheon

Thursday, July 17  Noon - 1:00 PM

On behalf of your NLU staff council, please join us for the annual “Thanks-for-Giving” Lisle campus food drive and pot-luck luncheon!    This event will be held at the Lisle Campus in the Public Forum on Thursday, July 17 from noon - 1:00 PM.  Last summer we collected 15 very full grocery bags of food which was then donated to the Lisle Food Pantry.  This summer we would like to top that and fill 20 grocery bags!    We look forward to your participation in the pot-luck luncheon and if you are not able to attend, please consider donating non-perishable goods.  Cash donations will also be accepted.

RSVP to either Debbie Smith-Williams, ext. 4484, or Tracy Costello, ext. 4319, if you plan to attend the lunch and what you plan to bring as your side dish, salad, dessert, beverages or other. Plates and serve ware are also needed.  If you decide to attend last minute, but are unable to bring something to pass, plates to fill will be available for a $2 donation to be given to the Lisle Food Pantry.

All non-perishable food items can be left with Debbie or Tracy between now and July 17th.  Or better yet, bring your donations with you to the luncheon.  See you then!

Elgin Campus

Volunteers for Elgin Community Toy Drive

This year, the Elgin Community Toy Drive expects to provide two new toys to 2500 children.  We will be serving almost 1000 families.  This is the fourth year that NLU has participated and been a co-sponsor of this event, and we have seen support for this event increase every year.  This year, we will have received gifts from three of our local campuses, and we will have volunteers from four of our Chicago-area campuses volunteering at the event.

The Elgin campus regularly sells bottled water and gives 100% of the proceeds to an Elgin charitable organization each term.  We always support the Toy Drive in the fall term.  Other charities we have contributed to are Anderson Animal Shelter, Little Angels, and the Elgin Fall Shoe Drive.  This term we collected almost $550 dollars for toys.  With the funds collected and toys contributed, we were able to provide 55 children with two new toys.

We would also like to thank Dr. Martha Casazza and Dr. Steve Thompson for their assistance in providing 1000 garbage bags for the parents to carry home the toys for their children at the Toy Drive.  Their generous assistance allowed us to use that extra money to buy toys rather than for supplies for the drive.

Also, we had great support from the Chicago Campus in providing toys for the event.  Many people who attended the Chicago Holiday party brought gifts for the Elgin Toy Drive.  We sincerely thank them for their support.

All of us who participate in this event always look forward to the actual drive and feel that it truly makes the holiday special for each of us.
